Frugal Bottle to get Sustainability Upgrade
The Frugal Bottle, the world’s first commercially available paper bottle for wines and spirits, is about to become even more sustainable and recyclable by moving to a mono material polyethylene pouch.
Frugalpac’s Frugal Bottle, which was launched in 2020, is made from 94% recycled paperboard and a metallised PET (MET PET) pouch to hold the liquid, with a carbon footprint 84% lower than a glass bottle. Four years on, the Frugal Bottle has been used by 45 brands in 25 countries around the world.
Replacing the MET PET pouch with a mono material polyethylene pouch will see much higher rates of recycling due to the more advanced recycling infrastructures for mono materials around the world. The new mono material pouch is a polyethylene-based solution taking advantage of the developments in advanced polyethylene to achieve the same shelf life and drop height characteristics of the current MET PET pouch. Frugalpac has conducted its usual rigorous oxygen transfer, filling, and distribution testing to ensure the new material meets the needs of the wine and spirits’ market.
The new mono material pouch will be available from April 2025 and further information is available on request at hello@frugalpac.com.
Frugalpac recently won a King’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation for its Frugal Bottles and the machines that make them.
